25 July 1941 Wellington T2576 301 Sqn RAF Hemswell, training flight, failed to take off and crashed into trees at Harpswell cross roads at the South East corner of the airfield. T2576 burst into flames, destroying the aircraft and a cottage some of the wreckage landed on. The cottage occupants escaped uninjured.
