15 April 1941 Wellington R1212 304 Sqn. Pilot lost control in strong cross winds while landing at RAF Syerston. The flaps were down but the undercarriage up, the aircraft overshot and the pilot opened up the engines. R1212 skidded a considerably distanance to the left, did a 180 degree turn and crashed into a tree in Flintham Woods just beyond the airfield at 17:27. The investigating officer concluded from the positions of the bodies, the 2nd pilot, Sergeant Pietruszewski had attempted the landing.
