1 January 1941 Wellington T2517 301 Sqn. Take off 16.00 from RAF Swinderby to bomb the
Focke-Wulf factory Bremen. 22.25 crashed into the ground at speed, Temple Bruer near RAF
Digby.
Witnesses at RAF Wellingore reported seeing the aircraft pass over the base very low and at
high speed, then seeing a fire in the distance. No Luftwaffe claim at the time of the crash. All
buried at Newark Cemetery.
Reported on other sites ; Shot down by Lt Rudolf Stradner NJG2 Luftwaffe intruder Ju88 C-2 R4+KH from Gilze-Rijen airfield, the Netherlands.
Although Lt Stradner claim was a Wellington at 18.40, North Sea, 75km East of Lowestoft. No Luftwaffe claim at the time of the crash.
Accident report by RAF Squadron Leader C G Skinner attached 301 Squadron, concluded accident due to pilot error.
