Military history

Mechanic RAF Syerston. Killed after being struck and run over by a lorry driven by William Sharpe of 61 Top Street, Elston on the Fosse Way at Elston Lane, Elston while being a pillion on a motorcycle. LAC Wladyslaw Bros also killed.

Extra information

At the subsequent inquest Coroner for Newark, Mr J B Norman ruled Accidental Death for both airmen. Although it was not ascertained who was in control of the motorcycle at the time of the collision it was noted LAC Bros was an experienced rider who had taken part in motorcycle competitions. LAC Andrezjewski was found some distance from the motorcycle and had died from a fracture to the base of the skull. LAC Hieronim Galecki the owner of the motorcycle had bought the machine 2 weeks prior and had given it to LAC Bros for repair, he had no knowledge of the motorcycle being ridden on the road.
