
William Collingwood Plumbe
Manager of Sherwood Chemical Works Co, and managing director of the family firm, Plumbe & Richardson. Attended Queen Elizabeth School 11/05/1895 to August 1903. He was the choir leader and Sunday School superintendent (morning) at Mansfield West Gate Congregational Church; he resigned in early 1917 as he had been called up.

William Collingwood Plumbe was born in 1886 at Mansfield, he was the son of the late William Alvey Plumbe a printer and Kate Plumbe née Stidson of Linden House Mansfield.
His father William Alvey Plumbe was born in 1845 at Sutton in Ashfield, he died in 1911 aged 65 yrs, his mother Kate Stidson was born in 1855 at Plymouth Devon, they were married in 1875 at Sherwell Congragational Church, Plymouth, they went on to have 10 children sadly two died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census his widowed mother is living at Lindon House, Mansfield, she is shown as Kate Plumbe 56 yrs, a widow she is living with her son William Collingwood 24 yrs single a manager at a chemical works and Gwyneth 16 yrs of age.
William married Marion Cooper (born 28th January 1886) they were married on 27th October 1911 at Mawdsley Street Chapel, Bolton, they lived at Ashfield Avenue, Mansfield, they had children: Joan, born 15th May 1913, Kenneth, born 30th November 1914 and Barbara, born 19th October 1917
Commencing 19th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week.
William left £608 10s. 1d. to Marion in his will.
Private William Collingwood Plumbe enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 1/5th Bn Gloucestershire Regiment. Secondary regiment Yorkshire Regiment (formerly 34233 9th Bn). Enlisted March 1917. Died at Edinburgh War Hospital on 13th November 1918 of wounds and pneumonia, he is buried Mansfield (Nottingham Road) Cemetery.
