Mabel Lane was the daughter of Henry (died 1900) and Emily Lane and the sister of Walter, Frank, Albert, Fred and Hammond Lane. In 1891, the family home was at 65, Gamble Street, 29, Independent Street by 1901, 38, Mitchell Street in 1911 and 39, Independent Street in 1921 (all Radford, Nottingham). Mabel Lane married Samuel J Hayes (a colliery deputy) at Nottingham in 1924. In 1939, they lived at 13, Morley Road, Woodthorpe, Nottingham.
