Walter was the son of George and Emily Green and the brother of George, Arthur, Ernest, Samuel, Ada and Florence Green.
In 1901, they lived at 185, Sheffield Road, Old Whittington, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
Following George Green's death in 1906, Emily married George Stocks in 1908.
In 1911, they lived on Pottery Lane, Whittington along with Walter Green and his siblings Arthur and Samuel Green.
After George Stocks's death at Chesterfield during the first quarter of 1915, Emily married William Booker later the same year. Booker is cited as Walter Green's step father by CWGC and the Soldiers' Effects Register.
Emily Booker was awarded a weekly pension of 6/- in 1918 when she was living on Newbold Moor, Chesterfield.
Private Walter Green enlisted at Chesterfield , he served with the 1/6th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 5th July 1916 aged 19 yrs he is bured at Le Treport Military Cemetery, Grave Reference: Plot 2, L, 3C
His brother Private Arthur Green enlisted at Chesterfield, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, hewas killed in action on 24th February 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial Panels 26 & 27
Thanks to Janice Ashley for this identification. She notes that the Green brothers 'were the sons of my great grandparents, George and Emily Green.' Walter's older brother Arthur Green was killed in action 24/2/1915. (See elsewhere on this site).
