Military history

Aircrew Remembered.com:
Special Duties Flight and Supply Drop; 357 Sqd based at Rangoon, Burma.
Donald was a passenger.
Returning to Rangoon from Jessore (now in Bangladesh). This was a Special Duties flight for S.O.E and also a supply drop to Mongoose Section of the S.O.E.
The plane was found 2 weeks later 10 miles from the drop zone, it was identified by it's tail and personal belongings of the crew.
The aircraft wing hit the side of the mountain some 6000ft above ground and 1000ft above the drop zone and crashed at Mewaing killing all on board. The weather at the time was unpredictable due to the monsoon season.
It was another 2 months before the bodies could be recovered.
4 members of crew, 6 other RAF personnel inc Donald, 6 S.O.E members .
One of the S.O.E members was Lt/Col Sydney Wiggington from Lenton and is remembered on the Lenton Memorial.
This was the last fatal WW2 accident in Burma.

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser: 17/1/1946: Mansfield Airman's Death.
Mr and Mrs A Wild of 28 Bishop Street, Mansfield who received notification in September last that their only son, Flt Sgt D H Wild with the RAF in Burma was missing on September 7th have now received official notification that he was killed on that date with other passengers in the plane west of Mewaing. He was travelling to Calcutta to spend his leave.
Twenty-one years of age Flt-Sgt D H Wild volunteered in 1942 being one of the original members of the local A.T.C. Prior to his enlistment he was employed by Graham's Firnishers, Westgate, Mansfield.
