In 1921 and 1939 he is shown as a Tobacco Despatch packer. According to the Japanese POW card he was a Tobacco Despatch Clerk.

Family history

Son of Joseph Thomas and Harriett Brough born 15 Oct 1915 in Nottingham. In 1921 he is living with his parents at 36 Edwin Street, Nottingham. With them are his older brother John Thomas, and sisters Elsie and Harriet. Joseph is still at school.

In 1936, Sept 5, he married Norah Ibbotson at All Hallows Church, Gedling. They then lived at 34 Station Rd, Carlton.

Military history

He was serving in Singapore when the Japanese invaded and was made a Prisoner of War. He was initially reported as missing 15 Feb 1942 which was later confirmed as Prisoner of war. He died on 25 April 1945 at Kuching Sarawak POW camp of Beri-beri.
He is commemorated in LABUAN WAR CEMETERY, Malaysia K B 2
