Son of Samuel and Alice Ulyatt nee Gibbons.
Killed in action near action west of Dreirewalde towards Rheine against the Panzerkorps Großdeutschland" II. /Regiment Poeschmann. Originally buried at Neuenkirchen, reinterred 3rd April 1947 at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, grave 49. H. 12.
War diary entry:
6 April 1945 RSF passed through village in KANGAROOS at 10:00 hrs objective HOPSTEN. Bn resting. Bn moved at 20:30 hrs to area south of HOPSTEN.
7 April Patrol from Coy located enemy on left flank. 15 Pl sent out to deal with them but estimated 20 in strong posn and arty programme arrange and 13 Pl and tac Coy H.Q. re-inforced 15 Pl. Arty support difficult to get as Hun pulling out of HOPSTEN and priority targets being engaged. Plan made for 15 Pl with R.A. sp to go in with 13 Pl giving fire. 15 Pl got on to objective but encountered heavy fire and had casualties. GERMANS pulled back out across stream and fire battle. No support available for coy as all coys have tasks. 15 Pl lost 4 wounded and 3 killed. C.O. ordered coy to dis-engage. This was done under cover of smoke but Lt Park reported enemy withdrawn before this.
Area cleared later with by coy with tank support and NO enemy.
