Son of Allan and Charlotte Campbell of 6 Surrey Drive, Mansfield. Allan snr died in 1938.
Siblings: James (1909), Doris (1910), Evelyn (1920), and Elsie (1926).
Married Emily Edens of 122 Stockwell Gate, Mansfield in 1940. She was a cotton spinner.
HMS Exeter: 2nd Battle of Java: 1st March 1942.
At about 08:00 hours the British fleet spotted 2 Japanese ships and engaged with them. The Exeter was hit by a torpedo in the forward boiler room which took out all power. Now defenceless and trying to save his men, Captain Gordon, ordered the ship to be scuttled. 652 men were picked up and became prisoners of war.

Bacil Dysentry-a bacterial infection which becomes an invasive and severe inflammation of the intestines. Very contagious causing bloody diarrhea and vomiting.
Pellagra- lack of B3, causing diarrhea, dementia and inflammed skin.
