HMS Daffodil
HMS Daffodil was a converted TF3 Train ferry built in 1917. She was converted into a Landing Ship Sternchute (LSS) and used as an allied transport for D Day and beyond. On March 17 1945, at 11pm she struck a mine just north of the harbour wall at Dieppe and sank the next day at 5am. Nine men, including Able Seaman Reginald Heath from Aspley and Leading Cook Stanley Newton from Nottingham, lost their lives.
