Son of Alfred and Ada Lees, of 59 Berry Hill Road, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
Siblings: Harry (1914) and Alfred (1916), they both served during WW2
Married Florence Ida Ellis of Mansfield in 1939. Their daughter, Sandra was born in 1945 after Richard's death.

Military history

S.S. Nephrite: On the 8/9 March 1945 a small German raiding party attacked Granville,
France demolishing installations and releasing German POW, they also sank the Kyle Castle and Packwood aswell as the Norwegian ship Heien.

The news has been received by Mrs F.L. Lees 108 Berry Hill Road, Mansfield that her husband, Ableseaman Gunner Richard Arthur (Dick) Leeswas killed on war service on March 8th. He joined the Royal Navy on July 1st 1941 and had seen service in verious ports of the World. He was torpedoed twice in 1942. Having attended King Edward Schooll he was employed by Mansfield Shoe Co. For sometime he was a volunteer firefighter and stretcher bearer at Mansfield Hospital. Aged 32 he leaves two young brothers, one serving with the Royal Corps of Signals in Greece and one recently returned to this country from India. Mr Lees was the son of Mr & Mrs A Lees 59 Berry Hill Road, Mansfield.
