Fred Barlow was born on 20th September 1895 at Clipstone, he was the son of the late Samuel a horseman on a farm and Zipporah Barlow née Parr of 2 Council Houses, Blidworth.
His father was born in 1857 at Farnsfield, he died in 1908 aged 51 yrs , his mother Zipporah Parr was born in 1856 at Mansfield, they were married in 1880 at Balderton, they went on to have 8 children sadly two wer to die in nfancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 19 Millbank Terrace, Bowling Street, Mansfield, Zipporah 55 yrs is a widow she is living with her children, Shady 22 yrs a laundry worker, Daisy 20 yrs a laundry worker, Dorothy 17 yrs and Fred 15 yrs a collier.
At time of his death his mother was living at 34 Smith Street, Mansfield.
Private Fred Barlow enlisted and served with the Royal Marine Light Infantry, he was serving with the Portsmouth battalion Royal Naval Division when he died on 6th May 1915 at Gallipoli having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli.
