Notes on event
On 15 Jan 1945 the unescorted Maja (Master William Cecil Robinson) was torpedoed and sunk by U-1055 southeast of Drogheda. 17 crew members and eight gunners were lost. The master, 37 crew members and two gunners were picked up by the Belgian trawler Hendrik Conscience and landed at Holyhead. (Courtesy of uboat.net)

Buried at Carlton (Gedling) Cem Sec A1 grave 40 in family plot. A/B Ibbotson RN Jan 15 1945 aged 22 also my husband Ernest Ibbotson died 26 June 1933 aged 43 and Nellie Ibbotson died 30 Dec 1972 aged 81.
