Harry L Knowles was the son of Robert and Florence Knowles and the brother of Marjorie Knowles. They lived at 91, Hawton Crescent, Wollaton Park, Nottingham.

Military history

Knowles was killed along with Thomas Brumfitt, Albert Henshaw and Sidney Moore when their Mitchell bomber was shot down in Holland by flak. Historians disagree about whether the aircraft was FW152 or HD336. Research is on-going. Bodies of the crew could not be recovered and they are commemorated at Runnymede.
