Family history
Harris was the eldest son of Herbert and Ethel Harris, 27, Wright Wilson Street.
He was engaged to Barbara Wilkinson, of Woodbeck.
Military history
In May, 1939, he joined the Notts. Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry, and was called up on the outbreak of war.
He went out with the Regiment to Palestine in January, 1940, and served throughout the North African campaign.
After the Regiment returned to this country, in December 1943, he came home on leave.
He landed with the Rangers in Normandy on D-Day. Shortly afterwards he was promoted to the rank of corporal.
