James attended the Sir Frederick Miner School, and was afterwards employed by J. Camm of Great Morton, Babworth, leaving in the spring of 1939 to join the forces.

Family history

He was the son of J A and Lilian Robinson, of Retford, Nottinghamshire.

Military history

He served with the B.E.F. in France and Flanders and fought in many engagements, and was evacuated from Dunkirk.

He saw a good deal of service out East. He was one of the survivors of HMS Repulse, which was sunk by a force of Japanese bombers. Since then he had taken part in the severe fighting of Singapore.
