Military history

During July 1944, the 34th Searchlight Regiment was heavily engaged in the United Kingdom on home air defence duties. In the summer of 1944, units in the south and south-east of England were intensely deployed to counter the German V-1 flying bomb ("Doodlebug") offensive, using searchlights to track the missiles at night for anti-aircraft guns and Royal Air Force interceptors.
