War Diary:
3/6/1944: left Waverley Barracks. Prepartions to move, including payment of men and chance of currency.
4/6/1944: Boarded S.S. Leopoldville & S.S Cameronian at Tilbury. Conditions on the 2 ships comfortable except for slight overcrowding. Remained in the Thames Estuary.
5/6/1944: News that Rome had fallen received with great enthusiasm on board ships.
6/6/1944: 09:00 hrs sailed out of Thames Estuary passed Deal. Dover and Folkstone.
News of opening of 2nd Front. All men briefed and put into general picture.
7/6/1944: Anchored in the Solent.
8/6/1944: 16:00 hrs parties were taken off in L.C.As (landing craft) and waded ashore. Landed at La Riviere. Weather was warm and clothes soon dried.
23:50 hrs arrived at Pouligny and defensive position dug.

22/7/1944: Area 1072 on Caen-Falaise map.
08:15 hrs Me109s (Messerschmitt) passed overhead strafing, no casualties.
14:00 hrs Bn area shelled by 105 mm guns. Adj Capt Thomas Hartley Kemp 207698 and
"I" Sgt Bernard Shepahrd killed, Lt. L.C. Croos and 2 other ranks wounded.

The 1/7th bn had taken part in Operation Bocage on 13th June and Operation Goodwood (attack on Caen) 18/7to 20/7/1944.
