He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hill, 81, Caledontan-road, Newtown, Retford. He was a scholar at Thrumpton Council School. On leaving, he went to serve his appreniceship as a plater at Messrs. W. J. Jenkins and Co. Ltd., where he remained until he was called up.

Military history

He joined Notts. Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry in October, 1935, and at the outbreak of war he went with them to Palestine. He was with the Eighth Army at the break through at El-Alamein, and continued with them until they reached Tunis.

He returned to this country on December 17th, 1943, after four years in the Middle East. He again went overseas, and was wounded in June, and succumbed to his wounds.
