He had been educated at Broomhill School and High Oakham School as well as taking evening classes at the County Technical College. He had been a member of the A.T.S. 384 Squadron before joining the RAF aged 17.

Family history

Son of Charles and Elsie May Marriott, of 4 Thoresby Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He was an only child.

Military history

He had enlisted at the age of 17 and gained his wings whilst training in Canada.

Flew from Leconfield on 24/5/1944 to bomb the railyards at Aachen. 442 aircraft 25 were lost.
As the raid was on German rather than Fernch or Belguian infrastructure the bomber force was considerably larger. A lot of the bombs fell on the town instead of the railyards and as a result nearly 15,000 were made homeless. Despite many bombs missing the yards there was still extensive damage to the railyards.
Dennis's aircraft was thought to have been hit by flak before crashing at Weisweiler near Aachen.

Sgt Pilot Dennis Marriott, only son of Mr & Mrs C Marriott of 4 Thoresby Street, Mansfield has been reported missing from operation. He was 20 and was educated at Broomhill and High Oakham Schools and afterwards he took evening classes at Mansfield Technical College. He volunteered for flying duties and has taken part in numerous raids over enemy territory. Before joining the RAF he was employed by the electriacl department of Mansfield Corporation.

Reported missing one year ago, three weeks before his 21st birthday, Flt Sgt Dennis Marriott RAF only child of Mr & Mrs C Marriott of 4 Thorseby Street, Mansfield must now be persumed killed.
He was an ex-member of the A.T.S. 384 squadron and joined the RAF when aged 17 and a half years of age. He gained his wings in Canada. As a boy Flt Sgt Marriott attended High Oakham School.
