Family history

He was the son of John Gladstone and Ethel Mary Bacon and the brother of Raymond William Bacon. In 1921, they lived at 26, Cycle Road and in 1939 at 64, Sherwin Road (both Lenton, Nottingham). He was the husband of Annie Winifred Lucy Bacon of Nottingham. BA (Lond) awarded through University College Nottingham.

Military history

Lancaster I LL899 took off 2031 11 April 1944 from Fiskerton to bomb Aachen. Shot down from 16000 feet by Oblt Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer of Stab 1V and came down by the village of Henxbroek 25 km north of Antwerp. Bacon had previously flown 25 operations. Initially interred in Deurne Cemetery, Bacon's body was later moved to Schoonseholf Cemetery.
