He was the son of William and Lucy Julia Green and the brother of Alfred, Sarah Ann, Emma, Hannah, William Martin, Harry and Mabel Agnes Green. In 1921, they lived at 41, Maws Lane relocating by 1939 to 48, Cliff Boulevard, (both Kimberley, Nottinghamshire). Albert Green and Norah Rowley were married in 1941 and they had a daughter named Glenis. They lived at Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.
In November 1943, the 2/6th Battalion The Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) was actively fighting in Italy as part of the 169th (Queen's) Infantry Brigade, 56th (London) Infantry Division, pressing forward through rugged terrain against German forces following the landings at Salerno and the Volturno line.Campaign Context and PositionPart of the fierce Italian Campaign following their September 1943 arrival at Salerno.Operated alongside sister units in the 169th Brigade (the 2/5th and 2/7th Queen's Battalions) under the 56th (London) Infantry Division, known as the "Black Cats".Spent late autumn 1943 moving through tough mountainous Italian sectors, preparing for major engagements such as the Second Battle of Monte Camino which commenced in early December 1943.
