Took off at 23:25 from RAF Silverstone for a night cross-country ('Bullseye') exercise where they would conduct a 'special T.I. (Target Indicator) demonstration' 1hr 49mins into the exercise control was lost of the aircraft while in cloud, and crashed at 00:54 at East Burton Farm near Horwood, 5 miles SW from Barnstaple, Devon.
