Son of Wilson and Ethel Lillian Lakin. In 1939 Wilson & Lillian were living above the Co-Op shop in Basford.
Eric was baptised at St John's Evangelist, Carrington on 13th October 1910.
In 1935 Eric married Mabel Irene Spencer of 39 Crown Street, Mansfield.
They had 2 daughters, Sylvia born in 1936 and Helen born in 1942. Helen was born after the fall of Singapore and Eric's capture so she never met her father.
Eric's regiment was being sent to Iraq when it was diverted to Singapore.
They set sail from the Clyde at Gournock, Glasgow, ironically on the "Empress of Japan", on the 12th November 1941. By Christmas they had reached South Africa but by then Japan had entered the war so they were diverted to Singapore where they landed on 13th January 1942, two days before Singapore surrended to the Japanese forces.
He was a prisoner of war and died of indigestion.
