He was educated at the National School, and also attended East Retford Sunday School and was a member of the choir.

He was also a Boy Scout. For some time he worked for Mr. Ledger, baker of Moorgate, and then entered the service of the London & North Eastern Railway Co. He was employed at Newark until 1939, when he was transferred to Retford.

He had a keen interest in sport, especially football. Frank played for the L.N.E.R. F.C. while stationed Newark.

Family history

He was the son of Joseph and Annie Hilton of Mill House, Thrumpton Lane, Retford. He had two siblings - Frederick and Queenie.

Military history

Before the out break of war he joined the Yeomanry, and subsequently he went abroad with the regiment. He was killed serving in the Middle East.
