He was the son of Jonathan and Emma Bradley of 75, Spring Terrace, Nuthall, Nottinghamshire
In June 1942, 17th (Service) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (Empire) was stationed in the Hampshire and Dorset District of England, conducting intensive training and assigned to a counter-attack defense role for the Gosport and Lee-on-Solent airfields.
Because the 17th Battalion was on a "lower establishment" home defence status in the Hampshire/Dorset district during June 1942, they were not engaged in overseas active combat at this time. Most casualties in home-stationed units during this period resulted from training accidents, localized air raids, or illness while preparing replacement troops.
