He was the son of John and Kate Miller; husband of Mary Ann Miller, of Toton, Beeston, Nottingham.

35 Wellingtons and 14 Hampdens deployed to carry out low level attacks on railway targets at Hanau, Lohr. It was very costly; 12 Wellingtons (34% of the Wellingtons dispatched) were lost ( + 1 Hampden). 5 0f 12 57 Sqdn Wellingtons on this raid were lost and 214 Sqdn lost 7 of its 14 Wellingtons.
