Family history

Lived at 111 Beeston Rd. [e.1939]. Son of Evered Herbert Leavers & Jessie Leavers, of the same address [e.1939 & 45] - only Jessie Leavers is ever listed on the electoral roll for 111 Beeston Rd. His father evidently left the family home before the move to Lenton and at the time of his death in 1962 was living in Halam, near Southwell.

Military history

Died 16th June 1941. His plane, Blenheim IV V6034 YH-D, crashed into the sea off the Friesian Islands after colliding with the mast of the ship it was attacking. Interred Baflo (Den Andel) Protestant Cemetery, Netherlands.

Awarded D.F.M in April 1941.
Flight Sergeant Leavers had joined the RAFVR in 1939. In the citation for his D.F.M it stated that he and Sergeant Overheu were pilot and observer in an aircraft that persisted in an attack on a large enemy convoy and in the face of heavy A.A. fire Sergeant Leavers displayed great determination and tactical ability which enabled Sergeant Overheu to score two direct hits on a large ship. He had completed many operational missions and was commended for his outstanding work [n.e.p.23.8.1941]
