Son of Oswald Brandon Whitehorn and Betsy Whitehorn nee Duckworth. Oswald Snr and Betsy married in 1915 but on the 1939 Register they are divorced. Betsy and Oswald Jnr are living with her parents at 1 Collingham Row, Newark, Nottinghamshire. Oswald Snr is listed on the 1939 Register as Store man RAF Hucknall.

Military history

17/5/1941 HMS Juno, deployed from Alexandria with cruisers HMS Naiad and Australian HMS Perth along with Destroyers HMS Nubian, Konderak and Kingston to intercept invasion craft on passage to Crete to carry out landings. HMS Juno was attacked by 5 Italian CANT Z.1007 aircraft from 210 Sqn, 50° Gruppo, Regia Aeronautica Italiana. 3 bomb hits credited to Lt. Mario Morassutti, split HMS Juno in two abaft of the bridge sinking her in less than 2 minutes.

116 of the ships company lost, along with 5 Maltese and a NAFFI canteen worker. 96 survivors rescued by HMS Nubian, Kanderhar and Kingston, 5 succumbing to their injuries later. Cousin to Keneth Duckworth, lost HMS Hood a week later.
