James Francis Giles
He attended the Grove street National School and afterwards the Central School, Carolgate, under the headmastership of the late Mr. E. Lidster.
He was employed at the garage of Messrs. C. Clark and Son, Bridgegate, and was a member the RetfordHome Guard.

He was the son of Cecil Charles and Edith Mary Giles of 23, Dominie Cross Road, Retford, Nottinghamshire.
On December 26th, 1939, he was married to Miss Winnie Cooke (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Cooke, 44, Nelson street, Retford), and she was left with a three weeks-old baby.
James had a brother, Mr. Percy Giles, who was in the employ of Messrs. C. Clark and Son, at the time of his death.
James joined H.M. Forces on September 6th, 1940.
He spent six months in Northern Ireland, and was then transferred to Plymouth.
Here Driver Giles was killed during an air raid on Plymouth, and was afterwards interred at a cemetery in the city.
