Son of Edmund and Jessie Staples, of Mansfield Woodhouse.
Siblings: Edward Clement (1912), Zoe Ethel (1917) and Geoffrey (1920).
In 1921 and 1939 the family was living in Southend on Sea. In 1939 Jessie was widowed and was living with Wiliam Francis and youngest son, Geoffrey at 41a Eastcote Grove, Southend-on-Sea but her death is recorded as being in Mansfield in 1945 so persumably she had moved back to Mansfield Woodhouse between the 1939 Register being taken in September 1939 and William's death in November 1940.
Both Edward and Geoffrey served during WW2. Geoffrey enlisted in the Royal Artillery on 13th March 1941 and joined the reserve list on 30th November 1946.He died in 1950 in Mansfield.
Army Casualty List : 25 oct-30 Nov 1940.

Essex Regt 2827002 Staples W.F. 13.11.40.
This seems to imply that he died of an illness. Entries are categ0rised as Killed, Died of Wounds, Died Result of an Accident or Died.
Depite being an Essex family sometime after the 1939 Register was taken Jessie moved to Mansfield Woodhouse and Geoffery joined her as the both died in the Mansfield area.
