He was the son of Major John Pickard Becher, DSO, and Gertrude Veronica Becher, of Southwell, Nottinghamshire. His father fell in the 1914-1918 War.

Military history

He was killed in an enemy air raid on Air Headquarters Steamer Point, Aden by the Regia Aeronautica Italiana.

Three SM.81s took off to bomb Aden, but one turned back, and one of the other two hit a hill near Massawa while trying to land on its return.
