Son of Charles E. and Hannah M. Saxby, of Farndon Ferry. Died at General Hospital. Charles and Hannah lost both their sons and their adopted son (their nephew).

Trent side Newark bombed by alone Ju88 of Kampfgeschwader 30 (KG 30) Luftwaffe bomber wing. Newark target listed by the Luftwaffe as Moulders & Petes, a secondary target after BMARC at Grantham was obscured by cloud. 14 bombs fell across the works, Castle Railway Station sidings and along the Trent and into the scrap yard. Houses, shops and the gravel works damaged, luckily the GPO Repeater Station on Water Lane and the oil storage tanks on the Trent side were undamaged. Blast walls were later built around the tanks, with the builder Mr Clipsham reportedly see the aircraft attack Ransome & Marles during there construction. Blown off a gravel barrage into the river Trent. Certified dead on arrival at Newark General Hospital, cause of death shock due to multiple shrapnel wounds to the stomach. Buried Farndon Cemetery.
