Rebecca was the daughter of Frederick William Chambers and his wife Rebecca (née Golds).
Her parents were born in Nottingham, Frederick William in 1889 and Rebecca in 1893. They were married in 1912 and had eight children, one of whom died in early childhood; Frederick Arthur b. reg. 1913 JFM, May b. 1915, Edith Emelina b. 1917, Rebecca b. 1919, Alfred William b. 1920 d. 1922, Ronald b. 1923, George b. 1925 and Stanley Eric b. 1927.
In 1921 Frederick, a main road corporal at Clifton Colliery, his wife, who was working from home as a plain net mender for Blacks of Nottingham, and their five children, Frederick, May, Edith, Rebecca and Alfred, were living at 79 Henry Street, Nottingham. The youngest child, Alfred, died the following year
The family was living at 131 Colwick Road by 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled. In the home on the night of the census were Frederick, now employed as a bricklayer's labourer, his wife and their children Mary and Edith who were canteen workers, Ronald a sheet metal worker, George a tool stores boy and Stanley who was school age. The record of one other member of the household remains closed.
The eldest child, Frederick Arthur, married Alice Eileen Smedley in December 1936 but in 1939 was recorded as a patient in a local hospital.
The youngest daughter, Rebecca, had married John Herbert Hopewell earlier in 1939 (reg. AMJ) and their son Terence John was born later that year (reg. OND). Rebecca, her husband and child were recorded at 13 Curtis Street, Nottingham; John was employed as a brass fettler.
All three died at 33 Hutton Street, Sneinton, on 15 January 1941 in a bombing raid on the city, and were buried together in Nottingham Southern Cemetery.
Rebecca's mother died suddenly on 17 October 1941.
Her father remarried in 1945 (Elizabeth A McCracken or Morrell). Frederick William died in December 1961 and was survived by his wife.
John Herbert, Rebecca and Terence John are buried in Nottingham Southern Cemetery (Wilford Hill), grave ref. L16.

'HOPEWELL (Chambers) - Sweet memories of Rebecca, John and Terence. Their memory is our greatest treasure - May and Harry.' May Hopewell married Harry Langdale REME, in 1940.

Rebecca's brother-in-law, Walter Hopewell (b. 1924), died in a road accident on 20 January 1941. (Nottingham Evening Post, 23 January 1941, Nottingham Journal, 20 January 1941 and 27 February 1941).
Her mother, Rebecca, died on 17 October 1941 aged 49.
