Mary Lord was a 20-year-old civilian air raid victim who was killed on the night of 30 August 1940. She lived at 13, Albert Avenue in Nuthall, Nottinghamshire. During a late-night Luftwaffe raid targeting the local area, German bombers dropped over 1,000 small incendiary bombs alongside high-explosive payloads. A 50kg high-explosive bomb crashed directly through the roof of 9 Alandene Avenue in Watnall. The blast killed Mary Lord and a 30-year-old man named John Moult (of Holly Road, Watnall).
