Samuel and Ruth were married on 21 May 1887 at Chard parish church and had four children who were all born in Chard: Mabel Eliza b. 1887, Ernest Charles birth reg. 1889 (JFM) bap. 3 January 1889, Ethel Emma b. 1891 and Beatrice Maud b. 1900.

Samuel, a machine hand (lace mill), his wife and their two children, Mabel and Ernest, were living at 12 Bath Street, Chard in 1891. By 1901 the family had move to Fore Street, Howard Row, Chard: Samuel, who was still employed as a machine hand, his wife and eldest daughter Mabel who were both lace minders, Ernest (12) and Ethel who were school age, and Beatrice (1). Also in the household was Ruth's widowed father, James Webber, a machine hand (lace mill).

Samuel Charles died on 10 March 1902 aged 34 and his widow Ruth remarried (Burrows, date of marriage not yet traced).

In 1911, Ruth, who was married but head of household and working as a lace mender (at home), was living in Chard with two of her daughters, Mabel and Ethel, who were both lace menders (lace mill) and Beatrice, who was school age. Ernest has not yet been traced on the 1911 Census.

Ernest married Irene Mettam (b. 2 May 1890,Stapleford) at Stapleford St Helen, Nottingham, on 1 August 1914. Their son Frank was born on 26 July 1915 and baptised at Chard parish church on 18 March 1916. Ernest was already serving with the Rifle Brigade and the baptismal register gave Ernest and Irene's address as 59 Lime Grove, Stapleford; Irene's family home.

Irene and their son were recorded living with her parents at the family home, 59 Lime Grove, Stapleford, in 1921. Irene married James H Walton in 1921 (reg. JAS Shardlow).

Ernest's mother was recorded on the 1939 England & Wales Register at 16 Coronation Street, Chard. She was widowed and recorded as an 'OAP'. Also in the home were her two unmarried daughters, Mabel and Beatrice, who were both working as overlookers (plain net).

Their sister, Ethel Emma, had married Albert Victor Burrows in 1919 (reg. Chard) and their daughter Elaine Mary was born in 1921. Ethel and her daughter, a draper's shop assistant, were recorded in Chard on the England & Wales Register; her husband has not yet been traced on the Register. Albert and Ethel were living in Chard when he died in 1966; administration of his estate was awarded to his widow

Ruth was still living at 16 Coronation Street at the time of her death on 25 October 1957. Her daughter Ethel Burrows and her husband Albert Burrows were her Executors.

Mabel Eliza died in January 1961; the probate record gave her address as 16 Coronation Street. Her sisters, Emma and Beatrice, were awarded probate. Beatrice died in 1968; she had moved from Coronation Street but was still living in Chard. Ethel had moved from Chard and was living in Bournemouth when she died in October 1970.
