Alfred Walter Taylor was born in 1897 at Netherfield, he was the only son Of George a railway goods guard and Ruth Taylor nee Sargeant of Netherfield, Nottingham.
His father George was born in 1867 at Tuxford, Nottinghamshire, his mother Ruth Sargeant was born in 1870 at Trowbridge, Wiltshire, they were married on 25th November 1891 at St Peter and St Paul Church, at Fenstaton., Cambridgeshire, they went on to have 4 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 41 Godfrey Street, Netherfield, NottinghamGeorge Taylor 44 yrs is a railway goods guard, he is living with his wife Ruth 41 yrs and their children, Afred Walter 14 yrs a joiners apprentice, Mary Ethel 8 yrs ofage and Hannah Jessie 2 yrs of age.
Private Alfred Walter Taylor enlisted at Nottingham, giving his age as 18 yrs and 6 months, he was a joiner his next of kin was his father George of 41 Godfrey Street, Netherfiled, Nottingham, he was posted to the Royal Engineers. He landed in France on 6th July 1915 and died of wounds on 8th July 1916 he is buried at La Neuville British Cemetery, Corbie 1.B.5
