Arthur Ernest Rose was born in 1898 in London, he was baptised on 6th February 1898 at Christ Church Norwood, Gipsy Hill, Lambeth he was the son of Arthur George Rose a police constable (Nottingham City) and Constance Rose Eleanor Rose née Fox of 17 Glebe Street, Nottingham
His father Arthur George was born in 1876 at Battersea, London, his mother Constance Rose Eleanor Fox was born in 1876 they were married on 3rd February 1897 at Christ Church, Norwood, they went on to have 6 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 20 Colsterworth Terrace, Nottingham, Arthur Rose 34 yrs is a police constable (Nottingham City) he is living with his wife Constance and their children, Arthur 13 yrs a scholar, Violet 12 yrs a scholar, Lily 9 yrs a scholar, Ivy 8 yrs a scholar, Ruby 3 yrs of age and George 1 year old.
Private Arthur Ernest Rose enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 5th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in actio on 27th August 1918, he is buried in Gomiecourt South Cemetery (grave ref IV.A.8)
Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 20 September 1918: 'Rose. Killed in action August 27th 1918, Private Arthur Ernest Rose, KOYLI, age 20, son of Arthur and Constance Rose, 14 Ryehill Terrace, Ryehill Street. Mother, father, sisters, brother.'
