Arthur Edward Pick was born in 1899 at Netherfield, he was the son of Arthur an engine driver and Phoebe Pick née Jeffcock Smith of 2, Beech Avenue, Netherfield, Nottingham.

His father Arthur was born in 1874 at Eaton, Leicestershire, his mother Phoebe Jeffcock Smith was born in 1872 in the United States of America. they were married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Melton Mowbray registration district, they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 2 Beech Avenue, Netherfield, Arthur Pick 36 yrs is an engine driver, he is living with his wife Phoebe 39 yrs and their children, Arthur Edward 12 yrs a scholar, Sidney 9 yrs a scholar and Clarice 8 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private Arthur Edward Pick enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Netherfield he initially served with the service number 31753 in The Dorset Regiment, he later transferred to the 2nd battalion Worcestershire Regiment, he was killed in action on 29th September 1918 he is buried at Pigeon Ravine Cemetery, Epehy, France.
