William Frederick Gale was born in 1896, at Carlton he was one of six children born to William a platelayer and Emily Gale née Jarvis 14 Godfrey Street, Netherield, Nottingham.
His father William was born in 1872 at Barrowby, Lincolnshire, his mother Emily Jarvis was born in 1868 at Barrowby Vale, Lincolnshire, they were married on 6th June 1892 at St Georges Church, Netherfield they went on to have 6 children.
By 1911 William junior had left school and was working as a chair maker at the local furniture factory he is 15 yrs of age he is living with his parents William 39 yrs a railway platelayer and Emily 43 yrs and his siblings Leslie Jarvis 18 yrs a telegraph lad, Edward Bee 13 yrs a scholar, Ethel Mary 12 yrs, a scholar, Sam Martin 9 yrs a scholar and Marjorie Annie 4 yrs of age they are living at 8 tRAFFIC tERRACE, nETHERFIELD.
In 1901 the family were living at No 65 Deabill Street, Netherfield then by 1911 they had moved to No 8 Traffic Terrace, Netherfield.
By the time of William junior's death the family had moved again to No 14, Godfrey St., Netherfield, Nottingham.
Originally Private 4325 he then became Private 306406 with the Sherwood Foresters. He died of his wounds and is buried Noeux-les-Mines communal Cemetery, in the Pas de Calais region of France. He was eligible for the British and Victory medals
