Alan Marris Day was born in 1898 at Gainsborough, He was the son of Marshall a contractor carpenter and Susan Catherine Day née Marris of 128 Curzon Street Netherfield Nottingham.

His father Marshall was born in 1859 at Shipley, Yorkshire, his mother Susan Caterine Marris was born in 1862 at Sculcoates, Yorkshire, they were married in 1884 at Sculcoates, Yorkshire, they had 4 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or ealy childhood, their other surviving child a daughter Kathleen Mary born 1901.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 5 Malabar Terrace, Glendon Road, Hull, Marshall Day 50 yrs is a contractor carpenter, he is living with his wife Susan Catherine 48 yrs, and their children, Alan Marris 13 yrs a school boy and Kathleen Mary 9 yrs a school girl.

Military history

Private Alan Marris Day enlisted at Hull, he served with the 'D' Company 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 29th April 1917 in France, he is buried at La Chapelette British And Indian Cemetery, Peronne
