John Thomas Lamb was born 1891 at Nottingham

He married Hilda Gladys Widdowson (born 21st January 1894) in 1916 (reg. J/F/M Nottingham). Hilda had a daughter, Gladys Winifred Widdowson, born 10th July 1914 (reg. J/A/S Nottingham).

According to a notice of John's death in the local paper in 1916, the family lived at 7 Oldknow Street, Nottingham.

Commencing 26th February 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week, at this date she was living at 80 Saville Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham.

Hilda married Thomas S Meakin in 1919 and had a second family. She died in 1939.

Military history

Rifleman John Thomas Lamb enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 27 July 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France (Pier and Face 13 A and 13 B).

Note: notices in the local paper gave his name as 'W Lamb' but other details match civil and military records for John Thomas Lamb.
