Arthur Leslie Twissell was born in 1902 at Nottingham the son of the late George Machin a railway clerk and Florence Emily (née Richards) Twissell who died Nottingham aged 33 in 1916.of 44, Cobden Street, Radford.
His father George Machin Twissell was born in 1881 at Nottingham, he was killed in action on 16th August 1917 in France, his mother Florence Emily Richards was born in 1883 at Nottingham, she died on 4th May 1916 at Nottingham, she was aged 33 yrs they were married on 29th December 1900 at St Saviours Church, Nottingham. they had a further child, Ethel Maud Twissell born 1905He was the brother of Ethel Maud Twissell, born 1905, (later of 59 Salisbury Street Radford Nottingham).
In 1911, the family lived at 25, Harrington Street, Nottingham. George Machin Twissell 30 yrs is a railway clerk, he is living with his wife Florence Emily 28 yrs and their children, Arthur Leslie 8 yrs and Ethel Maud 5 yrs of age.
Private Arthur Leslie Twissell enlisted and served wit the 1st battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he died from appendicitis and perotinitis at the Curragh Military Hospital in Ireland and he is buried at Curragh Military Cemetery, Ireland. Grave Reference: 1291
Arthur Leslie's father George Machin Twissell was killed in action 16/8/1917 fighting with 1st Bn Inniskilling Fusiliers. He had formerly served with the Sherwood Foresters.
