Lewis Beardsmore was born in 1889 at NuthallHe was the son of William a jobbing gardener and the late Mary Beardsmore, née Clarke Smith the brother of Percy Beardsmore and uncle of Victor William Beardsmore who was killed in action 28/11/1917 serving with the South Notts Hussars.
His father William was born in 1850 at Nuthall, his mother Mary Clarke Smith was born in 1849 at Kimberley she died in 1918 her death was recorded in the Basford regisration district, they were married in 1872 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 6 children.
In 1911, they lived on Watnall Lane, Nuthall, Nottinghamshire. William Beardsmore 61 yrs he is a jobbing gardener, he is living with his wife Mary 62 yrs a house wife and their children, Percy 23 yrs a coal getter hewer, Lewis 21 yrs a coal miner haulage, also living with them is Victor William Beardsmore 13 yrs a coal miner pony driver he is a grandson.
Lewis Beardsmore married Fanny Elizabeth Shaw (born 19th July 1892 ) on 31st October 1914, and they had two daughters born at Doncaster - Marjorie born 9th January 1917 and Beatrice M (1920). They lived at 12, Swan Street, Bentley near Doncaster.
With effect from 25th January 1922 Fanny received a weekly pension for herself and daughters of £2 5/8d.
Lewis Beardsmore enlisted 6/1/1915 into the Royal Marines Medical Unit and was discharged from the Royal Naval Division due to gassing 10/12/1918 he died on 24th Januray 1922 at Doncaster.
