Family history

Albert Crampton was born on Station Road Sutton in Ashfield on 30th November 1897, he was baptised on 14th February 1898 at St Marys Church, Sutton in Ashfield, the son of John a flower mill waggoner and Mary Ann Crampton née Kirk of Station Road, Sutton in Ashfield and the brother of John William, Sam, Frank, Mary Jane Elizabeth, Lilian and Cecil Reginald Crampton.

John was born in 1869 at Kelham, Mary Ann Kirk was born in 1872 at Codnor, she died in 1915 aged 33 yrs married on 23rd August 1892 at Codnor they went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood,

In the 1911 census the family lived on Station Road, Sutton in Ashfield John 43 yrs is a waggoner of flower mill, he is living with his wife Mary Ann Crampton 39 yrs and their 7 children including Albert 13 yrs a bottle washer at mineral water works.

Military history

Private Albert Crampton enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield and initially served with number 1927 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment). He later transferred to 10th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He died of wounds on 5th December 1916 and is buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension Rouen Grave Reference: O III G 6
