Family history

William Rigley was born in 1889 at Nottingham he was the son of George Henry a hosiery finisher and Hannah Rigley née Mitchell and the brother of James, Anne, Herbert, Mabel, Charles and May Wrigley. In 1911, they lived at 65, Arnold Road, Basford, Nottingham.

His father George Henry was born in 1861 at Langley Mill, his mother Hannah Mitchell was born in 1864 at Nottingham, they were married in 1884 at Basford, they went on to have 9 children,

In the 1911 census the family are living at 65 Arnold Road, Old Basfod,Nottingham George Henry 49 yrs is a hosiery finisher, he is living with his wife Hannah 47 yrs and their children, William 22 yrs a coal miner, James 20 yrs a coal miner, Annie 18 yrs a lace dresser, Herbert 16 yrs a coal miner, Mable 12 yrs, Charles 10 yrs and May 6yrs old.

He was the husband of Elizabeth Marlow (born 2nd November 1895) they were married in 1915 at Nottingham, and the father of Ivy Rigley born 16th June 1916. of 2 Auckland Street, Radford, Notingham.

Commencing 28th May 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private William Rigley enlisted at Nottingham on 11th December 1915, he was 22 yrs and 351 days of age, he was a cotton doubler, giving his address as 12 Edenbury Street, Nottingham, he was posted to the reserves, Mobilsed for war 7th Augut 1916 at Derby he was posted to the Sherwood Forestes Regiment, service number 41878, he embarked for France on 31st July 1916, he was reported missing on 3rd September 1916 (he had been taken a prisoner of war) he died of wounds on 6th September 1916 whilst a prisoner of war he is buried at .
