Family history

Ernest Henry Ward was born in 1882 at Diss Norfolk , he was the son of the late Charles and Kate Ward.

He was the husband of Sarah Hewitt whom he married on 5th October 1912 at the Basford registry office, Nottingham, they lived at 57 Higher Regent Street, Beeston, Nottingham, they had 2 children, Amelia born 11th April 1913 at Beeston and Ernest Henry born 10th April 1915 at Watford.

Military history

Corporal Ernest Ward enlisted 2nd September 1914 at Watford,giving his age as 32 yrs and 8 months he was a wood working machinist he served with the 5th battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, he was promoted to Corporal on 3rd January 1916. He embarked from Devonport England on 18th January 1916 bound for Egypt. Disembarking at Alexandria on 1st February 1916, he was admitted to hospital in Egypt on 14th March 1916 due to wounds, he was returned to England on 23rd March 1916 he was discharged (wounds) on 5th June 1916 he was 34 yrs of age. He was issued with a silver war badge number 43975.

He died at Beeston on 1st December 1918 and is buried in Beeston Cemetery.
