At Nottingham in 1903, he married Ellen Starr, who was born in the city on 14th September 1885, they had four children - Kate (b.1904), Albert (b.1909), James (b.1912) and Hilda (b.1915) McLoughlin.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 4, Villa Place, Lowdham Street, Nottingham, James 36 yrs is a lace machine labourer, he is living with his wife Ellen 25 yrs and their children, Albert 2 years of age and Kate 6 yrs

Military history

Sergeant James Mcloughlin enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, and was probably killed on 26th September 1917 in fierce fighting around Dochy Farm near Zonnebeke during the 3rd Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele). Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial Panel 99 to 102
